Honoree George J. Peterson
Optimus Health Care, Inc. held a noontime ceremony on
Thursday, May 15, 2008, to honor George J. Peterson, a
long time Board Member of the Center by naming the
Conference Room at 982 East Main Street in his honor.
Mr. Peterson is the owner of the Peterson Funeral Home
on Noble Avenue in Bridgeport. He served on the
Bridgeport Community Health Center Board (now Optimus
Health Care) for nearly 20 years, including 3 terms as
Treasurer. He was presented with a plaque by Board
Chairwomen Teryl Norwood in the presence of more than 65
relatives, friends and staff of the center.
Mr. Peterson also received a Service Award presented by
Rev. Betsy Bloomfield from the Bridgeport Kiwanis Club
where he served as President. Ms. Norwood and
other speakers including Ludwig Spinelli, CEO and
Richard Torres, Chief Medical Officer, noted the number
of voluntary hours he has given the Center. Under his
guidance, the Center grew from one location on East Main
Street site to 12 sites in Bridgeport, Stratford and
Stamford. In 2007, the Center served some 40,000
unduplicated persons with medical, dental and behavioral
health care.
Mr. Peterson is a Bridgeport resident and veteran of the
US Navy. He is married to Viola Peterson and has
one daughter and two grandchildren.
