After 30 years of existence Bridgeport Community Health Center is expanding services and changing its name to reflect its mission

Stamford – On Monday, June 5th Stamford Community Health Center (SCHC) honored and recognized the medical providers and partners who supported SCHC as a safety net provider and helped to make SCHC’s recent expansion possible. At the ceremony Congressman Christopher Shays was honored for his role in securing federal funds critical to SCHC’s expansion and services to the Homeless.  Ludwig Spinelli, CEO of Optimus Health Care, SCHC’s parent company said, “The ceremony celebrates the growth of SCHC and the partnerships who helped the organization throughout the years.”  Spinelli, also unveiled the new name of the SCHC’s parent company, Optimus Health Care.
 
Patricia Gallegos, Site Administrator for SCHC began the awards portion of the evening by introducing all the honorees including; Congressman Shays, Dr. Michael Dubisette from the New Covenant House of Hospitality, Joan Gore of Stamford Hospital, Pharmacist George Romer, Philip McKain of CTE Inc., Dr. Joseph Connelly, the Physicians from Dr. Scott Spector’s Eyecare Center, and Dr. Richard Landesman and Physicians from The Heart Physicians, P.C..
                          
The festivities took place at the newly expanded facility at 137 Henry Street in Stamford. The expanded facility will allow SCHC to have more exam rooms; therefore, expanding it medical capacity to serve community residents in need of affordable, accessible quality primary health care services in the Greater Stamford area.  Site Administrator, Patricia Gallegos says, “In response to increasing need, our health center has expanded its medical services over the past year. However, we recognize that alone we are not able to ensure adequate health care for our patients, as a safety net provider, we need the help from community partners to continue to provide a continuum of medical services to our patients. And today, we recognize some of those key partners for their assistance”

The Stamford Community Health Center, born from the initiatives of local civic leaders and fostered by the need of the community is growing. Started in 1985 as South End Medical Center, SCHC continues their commitment to their community by facilitating the needs of their patients and employees while continuing do grow at an impressive pace.
SCHC recently received federal designation to add the East Side and the Cove neighborhoods in our service areas (in addition to the South End, Waterside, and West Side neighborhoods).
